Towards a Coalition of Community Computing Centers

Meeting with Peter Miller from CTCNet

Peter Miller, Director of the Community Technology Centers' Network
(CTCNet), will be in Seattle for HUD's regional "Neighborhood Network"
conference and would like to take the opportunity to meet with people
and representatives from organizations who are actively providing
computer access, programs, and resources to those ordinarily without
access or who are thinking about establishing programs like this.

CTCNet (formerly the Playing to Win Network) is a support center for
developing community-based technology projects. From their initial
work developing centers in Harlem housing projects and New York
prisons, CTCNet has been a consistently innovative leader for
democratic technology, equity, and social change. CTCNet developed a
pilot network of affiliated centers, primarily in the eastern U.S., in
the early 90's, and is the recipient of a national expansion grant
from the National Science Foundation to help support these programs
across the country.

Peter would like to discuss the goals and needs of various Seattle
organizations with an eye towards providing some supportive and
cooperative arrangements. He would like to learn about what's
happening in this region and discuss possible ways in which CTCNet can
help support community-based computing projects in Seattle and
elsewhere. Beyond this, however, it will useful and fun to meet with
others who are working or who would like to work with community-based
computing and technology.

Feel free to check out the CTCNet Web pages at http://www.ctcnet.org/.
Peter is from the Boston area. His e-mail is peterm at ctcnet.org
