A sad occurrence.

I don't know how many of you might have known, but this weekend a member of
the Seattle Public Library computing staff was killed in a freak auto
accident. All of the computing staff at the library have been very
supportive and helpful over the years, and Norman was no exception. Just
this last Saturday, he assisted us in system maintenance. Later that
evening, he was driving a limo as a favor to a friend, got a call from
another friend that was stuck by the side of the road with car trouble, and
stopped there to help out. A police car was already on the scene, lights
flashing. While Norman and the others at the scene were standing near the
cars, a car driven by a suspected drunk driver (I presume that they have
determined whether he was or not by now - this info is as of the article in
the paper) smashed into the parked cars. All were injured, Norman most
seriously - and he died an hour later at the hospital.

This just sickens me. Norman was a fantastically nice guy. I didn't know
him other than working with him in the library, but from that experience,
and what was said about him in the paper, it's just criminal. I've been
thinking over the last few days about something that we could do. Perhaps
a donation to MADD in his name? He had lost both his parents only a few
years ago, and I don't know if he has any other relatives (no siblings - he
was an only child). I haven't gotten hold of Jim Taylor yet - perhaps he
would have some ideas as to an appropriate response.

Suggestions?
