It highlights the work we've been doing for the past three years in East Austin, Texas. The lawsuit, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia U.S. district court, alleges Over the Air Equipment used "deceptive practices, including falsifying e-mail transmission data, to avoid AOL's mail controls and to repeatedly transmit vast quantities of unsolicited e-mail to AOL members," according to AOL. No one was immediately available for comment at Over the Air. Bulk "junk" e-mail is also known as "spam." AOL said today's action is part of its continuing strategy to fight the practice. I got a note this morning from LeRoy Duvall, an SCN volunteer, asking about it. The material below was brought to the board meeting -- so WHO has contacted Leslie and where does this stand? She seemed very interested in having someone from SCN at the workshop -- but I don't think any specific details were worked out. Certainly there should be brochures/registration forms, but it seems like a short stand-up blurb is in order. Sharma took the material -- but Jim of the committee formerly known as Outreach should be in the loop somewhere, no? Anyone want to follow up on this and let the rest of SCN know what's going on? (A Rod Clark pithy comment seems called for here, but I can't match his.) BTW -- LeRoy Duvall's e-mail is lduvall at nwlink.com. Lorraine, What I found in a quick search on www.microsoft.com this afternoon was this. If the direction of the Phinney discussion includes something else, maybe someone could point it out. http://www.microsoft.com/education/k12/vision/clc/ There's also a MS grant form for community groups, which seems to encompass a wide range of possibilities. By the way, I belatedly added an announcement today to the SCN home page about this evening's presentation by Peter Royce of the Vancouver Community Net, having finally found the (paper) flyer for it. This will only take a few minutes of your time. Please visit our web site at www.snonet.org/community/civic/ and fill out the forms over the Internet. We are very interested in what it takes to make successful community projects and to increase citizen involvement. Thanks for your help and please feel free to pass the message along in your e-mail address book. We are hoping to have 2000 people fill in the survey. It must be done by November 7th. Thanks.
