GIS PRESENTATION JULY 26TH at SCNA General Meeting

Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Services at Central Library
by Joan Johnson, Seattle Public Library
SCNA General Meeting Wednesday, July 26, 7:00 PM
University Branch Library, 50th and Roosevelt Ave NE
GIS presentation at 8:00 PM

Joan Johnson is a Reference and GIS Librarian in the Government
Publications Department for Seattle Public Library. She is responsible
for planning and delivering GIS Services including promotional and
educational programs. Prior to this, Ms. Johnson was the Library
Instruction Coordinator and administered system-wide educational programs
on library services and resources.

This presentation will include a brief explanation of GIS and various
types of digital geospatial data (maps) available on the GIS public-access
workstation in the Central Library. A few examples of the many types of
geographic features included in the GIS will be shown and details about
training opportunities will be shared. (Currently, a demonstration of the
actual data and software can only be shown at the Central Library).

Individuals, community groups and other types of special interest
organizations may find GIS to be a useful tool in planning for services,
outreach, lobbying, and development. Those needing to research
properties, in Seattle and parts of King County will also find the GIS to
be invaluable.

More information about the Library's GIS can be found on the Library's web
