Because being a board member SHOULD mean taking board responsibilities
seriously.  Until that happens (and I'm told things have improved
over the past few months -- should we thank Rich?), then I don't
think competent people are going to be willing to serve.  

If you recall, Rich withdrew his candidacy in the best interests
of the organization.  We don't know if he would have done a good
job as a board member -- but I do think he is sincere in wanting
to make positive changes in SCNA.  I don't think stepping in as
de facto secretary would be a good move -- for Rich or for the 
organization.
