Community Worker Program Announces Summer Information Sessions

Toronto, ON, CANADA - The Community Worker Diploma Program of George =
Brown College, now in its 26th year of operation, is offering a series =
of information sessions to prospective students during July and August =
2000. In addition, a special reception for new students to the program =
will be held on August 2, 2000. All are welcome to both information =
sessions and the reception. An RSVP for the reception is required.

The two-year Community Worker Diploma Program, created in 1975, trains =
students to work as organizers, advocates, facilitators, popular =
educators and community development generalists in a variety of =
community-based and social justice organizations including =
co-operatives, front-line social service agencies, ethno-specific =
agencies, immigrant and refugee services and organizations that promote =
and develop community services (such as day care, housing and youth =
services) for persons of diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and economic =
backgrounds.

Students are provided with a rich and comprehensive curriculum including =
human rights, community analysis, social policy, community organizing, =
group leadership, grant-writing, Internet applications for community =
workers, counselling, Canadian political science and community legal =
services. Theory is complemented by practice as all students complete =
three field placements during the course of the program. Recent =
graduates are undertaking varied community development work including =
the delivery of popular education programs, the provision of =
transitional housing, community heath promotion and youth-at-risk =
program development.

Campus of George Brown College (located at 200 King Street East in =
Toronto) on the following dates:
