SCN: restore messages

>From previous messages from me you know I'man idiot when it comes to
computers.
I have a lot of messages in the dead letter file that I have not  been
ableto get rid of. Thats not my problem. There came up a notice that I could
delete (?) old or dead letters.  I thought that it would get rid of the
earlier mrentioned dead letter file. Instead it wiped out every entry in
mymain message file. I would like, if possible to restore all the messages
that I have recieved excpt those I regularly delete to keep within the
limits of bytes I'm allowed. Thanks for any help you can give me. Charlie
